Book structure:
I made the sketches for the spreads using the applique technique.
To make the book more interesting for children, I made additional sheets that expand the space of the book. They emphasized that the path through the forest was very long, and the mouth of the wolf when he coughed was enormous.
Working on the characters
The Grandmother
The Little Red Riding Hood
The Wolf
Used techniques
The book uses a combination of manual techniques and digital techniques. For simple objects - trees, oranges, fireplace - I used stamps. They were made from apples, leaves, potatoes, and erasers.
For the characters, I used stencils. The image was applied with stamp ink.
All elements were combined into a single image using Procreate.
Final layouts
Modifying the plot
I wanted to look different at the story of Red Riding Hood to make it up-to-date. Therefore, I included in the plot that the wolf fell ill with Covid-19.
It turned out at the moment of his triumph, when he almost ate his grandmother.
It turned out at the moment of his triumph, when he almost ate his grandmother.
What to do with the patient? After all, this is a wolf, he is dangerous and aggressive. But he is sick and the sick need to be taken care of. Such a dilemma arose before Granny and the Red Riding Hood. They decide to show mercy and take care of Wolf.
In addition, we will learn more details about the Red Riding Hood. It turns out that she has a very little sister, which is why the girl goes to the forest alone without parents. Another detail is who grandmother worked in her youth. I assumed she was a nurse.
